Meet Dr. Eric Wechselberger
Why I Became A Chiropractor
I grew up in the “Bavarian Village” of Leavenworth, WA, graduating from high school in 1979. I then attended Wenatchee Valley College with many of my Leavenworth friends not really knowing what courses I should follow. During my first year in college, I was also working part-time in home construction. Because of the heavy snowfall in the area each year, most homes used metal roofing material that would allow snow to slide off more easily. Another worker and I were on a job replacing older metal roofing when one of the sheets I was standing on broke free. I slid off the roof and landed on compact dirt 22 feet below. I was seen in the local hospital and was prescribed medication for the low back pain I was experiencing. This pain persisted for days and caused me to limp, until I finally visited a chiropractor in the Cashmere area. X-rays were taken and I was shown misalignment of my right pelvis. After several treatments, my back pain and limp was gone. It was then that I decided to become a chiropractor.
Chiropractic Education
I entered Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, Iowa in the winter of 1982. This is where chiropractic’s story began. D. D. Palmer developed a new way of treating the body; a more natural way and I wanted to receive my education where that history began. The curriculum was very challenging and you needed to stay dedicated because my class of 250 or so had shrunk to 190 after the first quarter. I remember many of the professors were chiropractors themselves who had already completed their schooling and received their DC (doctor of chiropractic) degree. During my final 2-years in school, I participated as an intern with a local chiropractor in private practice. Performing examinations, taking and developing x-rays and writing patient chart notes was very helpful and gave me ideas on how I might someday operate my own clinic.
A Natural Way To Better Health
Chiropractic care is the drug-less answer and natural way to better health for people of all ages. I try to provide that care to the best of my ability. Along with our massage therapists we have helped to educate and influence so many in taking charge of their health. It is so rewarding to witness patients recover from their conditions and then go on to healthier ways of living, something that we had played a role in.
Outside the Office
I have three wonderful children; Luke, John and Laura who were full of endless energy when younger and kept me going until bedtime. As they grew into adulthood I treated them regularly to help give their spines a straight balanced start in life.
I am one of some 3000 volunteers for Seattle’s largest yearly festival – SeaFair. I was the Commandant (head/president) in 1998 and still enjoy participating each year. Years ago I headed a city league basketball team that I played on called the “Ballard Chiros”. Playing golf, riding bikes, and current acting president of a bowling league are some of my favorite pastimes.
